Inés Domingo

Inés Domingo is an archaeologist and an ICREA Research Professor at the University of Barcelona. She explores the complexities of prehistoric art through a combination of archaeological and ethnographic perspectives.

In 2014 she was awarded the Blaze O’Connor Memorial Award at the 7th World Archaeological Congress for her outstanding contribution to archaeology.  In Spain she focuses on the study of Postpalaeolithic rock art of Mediterranean Iberia (World Heritage since 1998),  to answer questions of what, why, where, how, when and who produced this millenary visual legacy. In Australia she conducts research on ethnoarchaeology and rock art in Indigenous Australia, working with Indigenous people and Australian research scholars in Arnhem Land (Northern Territory).

In the past she has been teaching and conducting rock art research at Flinders University (Adelaide, Australia) and at the Universitat de València (Spain). She’s been Treasurer and Secretary of the World Archaeological Congress and chair of the Archaeolgists’s without borders program.
