Alexander Fidora

Born in 1975 in Offenbach (Germany), Alexander studied philosophy at the Uni­versity of Frankfurt, obtaining his PhD in 2003. 

Alexander is working on the interreligious dimensions of medieval Hispanic philosophy. In particular, he studies cultural contacts between Judaism, Christianity and Islam, such as: reception, interpretation and transformation of philosophical and theological translations from Arabic by Jewish and Christian authors; Polemics, controversial theology and interreligious dialogue in the Middle Ages; and Consequences of the confrontation between the three religions of the Book for the formation of European culture. 

From 2008 to 2012 he has led the ERC project: “Latin Philosophy into Hebrew: Intercultural Networks in 13th and 14th Century Europe”, currently he is directing the ERC Consolidator grant: “The Latin Talmud” (2014-2018), which explores the hitherto unedited Latin translation of the Talmud prepared in Paris in 1244/45; he has been a visiting professor in Brazil, Mexico and the USA; member of the Young Academy of Europe and president of the Spanish society of medieval philosophy.
